Guest Speaker: District Governor Johrita Solari
District Governor Solari joined Rotary for the first time in 1993 with the Anaheim Club. She is a native Californian and Villa Park Resident for the last two years. She has quite a list of accomplishments including Rotarian of the year for 2007 and seats on the board of many local organizations.
New International President Ray Klingensmith has set a "Back to Basics" agenda for his term in office based on Strong Clubs, Effective Service and a Unified and Recognized Brand. For individual clubs he wants Bigger( thinking, innovation, flexibility and creativity) Better ( vision plans and reviewing of success strategies) and Bolder (promotion, business networking among members).
As District 5320 Governor Johrita told us she will support all the clubs in the district using membership area coordinators and foundation area coordinators to help us become bigger and better. Our club has set a goal of 4 new members for this year and if we meet that goal we will be entered in a contest to have a special dinner at the Solari Home.
Governor Solari informed us that since the inception of the Villa Park Rotary our club has donated $110,000 to the Rotary Foundation and our commitment this year is to donate $200 per member.
She then went on to update us on District happenings:
- the district website www.rotary5320.orghas been updated and will serve as a better resource for the clubs. There is also District On-Line Directory and she encouraged us to check and update our individual profiles.
Worldwide Polio Efforts-
-The End Polio Now Baseball Game at Angel's Stadium was a big success!!!
-over 2 billion doses of Polio Vaccine have been administered world-wide with only scattered cases reported in 4 countries- Pakistan, Afghanistan, India and Nigeria.
- Bill and Melinda Gates have pledged $355 Million to end Polio and Rotary's goal was to match
$200,000,000 by 2012- so far we've raised $179,000,000
