Fact and Fiction

Good Morning All,

What can I say? Once again we merged into Rockwell's banquet room for a "cozy" interpersonal opportunity. In other words, we all left understanding the importance of deodorant!  Regardless, it can be said that Rockwell's management has done an outstanding job accommodating our club while work continues on the City Hall Council Chambers.

Mark Schmidt. What can one say. Here is a man that truly believes that he is getting younger, not older.  Not withstanding today's speaker and the topic on Alzheimer's disease, Mark announced to the world that his passion for his new hobby, namely "Zumba lessons".  For those of you not in the know, which includes virtually everyone, "Zumba" is a dance workout program that is based on the Rumba. Please note that Mark made a special point of noting that virtually all of the class,(excluding him), consisted of 20 something girls dressed in leotards and learning to develop "positive hip action".  In other words, he is in the world of his dreams.  It should be noted that Mark, always a fashion hound, has a red leotard.  I really don't want to go any further!

Ron Accornero, on the other hand, noted the importance of alarm systems for the home.  Apparently Ron had a break-in the other day and a number of items were taken.  This consisted of small jewelry and fashion pieces, such as rings and designer purses.  Apparently the thieves were in and out in 10-15 minutes.  Needless to say, Ron did not have an alarm system. Joe Brand, an owner of an alarm company, noted that had there been an alarm, the police would have been there in two to three minutes.  Be forewarned!!

With that in mind, Jill Kuli announced the resolution of the theft of her jewelry.  Apparently she thought her cleaning lady probably took it.  However, while packing for a move to her new home, she discovered the items in a drawer.  She had placed them in the draw for safekeeping and forgot where she had put them.  Jill, please refer to today's speaker's topic.

Linda Bartrom announced that VP Rotarian and Villa Park High School Principal Ed Howard was honored by Time Warner for his outstanding accomplishments as principal. This is a national award, one that is not only well deserved, but also equally an honor for the entire city of Villa Park.  Congratulations Ed!!

On another plain, Jay thanked the Service Chairs for the outstanding work done on the "Awards Books".  They have been submitted to the District for judging.  He also noted that the Future Visioning Program will be held on Tuesday, April 21 at Santiago Canyon College, Room E-203.

The program begins at 4:30 PM and dinner will be provided.  Maps and parking passes are available from Jay A( jay.applebaum@gmail.com) Please fill out the club evaluation forms even if you cannot attend the event and get them to Jay before Tuesday.

The Paul Harris Award Dinner,(to replace the normal Thursday AM meeting on 4/30) is scheduled for April 27th at 6PM.  Guests and potential members are invited.  Rockwell's will provide a three-course dinner an the entree choices will include, meat, fish or chicken.  Please advise Steve Stern with an RSVP (gramlainey@aol.com).

Finally the Rotarians at Work Project will be April 25th at 9 AM at the Serrano Water District lot.

A shed for storing Love Pack supplies will be constructed.

Eddie Nash pulled a "10" in the raffle/opportunity drawing.

Our Speeker was Jim McAleer, President of the Orange County Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.  He spoke to us on the signs of Alzheimer's Disease, diagnosis and treatments available as well as ongoing research to find better medications to slow the progress of the disease.
