5 Weeks Until Oktoberfest

300 Backpacks for Tecate Orphans and Laguna Beach Clambake

Big Successes

Good Morning all.  Our day began with the a very thoughtful invocation by Ken Fischer who reminded us to remember those who came before us and allowed us to enjoy the bounties of life we now enjoy.  Our flag salute was followed by Greg Millsleading us in "Roll Out The Barrel" and as our headline reminds us, its 5 weeks until the big event.

Steve Stern announced the upcoming Santa Maria Wine Dinner that will be on September 26th at his home- cost of admission $10/person + a bottle of wine from that region.

Brad Reese reminded us that its time to start planning on inviting a Marine to your home for Thanksgiving- this year Villa Park will entertain 75 Marines- cost per Marine is $125 and the money will be provided by the club.  Volunteers need to step forward by October 1st.

Bob Casey- announced a possible club project- the Villa Park Band Boosters have purchased a 1988 Chevy Van to carry band instruments to shows- it will be called the "Spartan Thunderwagon".

The van is in need of some body work and painting- if the club gets involved they will put a big Rotary Wheel in a prominant place.  Another project involves constructing an amphitheatre at the school for band performances- they could use some help with demolition and building the new site.

I also noticed Bob was carrying a membership packet for Rotary as he was leaving.

Birthdays:

Andie Mills celebrated by attending and working at our Laguna Three Arch Bay Clambake last Saturday- she was serenaded by the group- Greg then took her out for dinner at the Orange Hill Restaurant-

and then spent 24 hours at the Laguna Hotel

Happy Bucks:

Of course Interact members from VPHS were also vital in completing the project in so short a time. The Backpacks were picked up on Monday by a member of the Tecate Rotary and are already to give distributed to needy boys and girls.

Greg Mills is selling Entertainment Books- so for great discounts on services and restaurants see Greg, who will be selling the books over the next several months.

Steve Stern was happy to announce that Craig Beinlich and Nagi Ibraham will be inducted as club members next week.

Oktoberfest Update

Oktoberfest is in 5 weeks and we still need to keep getting donations for silent and live auction items.  Sell tickets and invite your family and friends to the event which promises to be lots of fun.  Remember this is our big fund raiser for the entire year and each member is responsible to collect or donate $250  and purchase or sell 4 tickets and put a business card sized ad in the program. Help the club  and Greg by doing your part!! Cash contributions are also acceptable if you can't donate an item.  Every little bit helps.

Speaker Topic:

Active Hexose Correlated Compound

Pete Baskauskos

A blend of mushroom extracts that helps to support immune function. Pamphlets were provided.

See you next week.
