Oktoberfest Shaping Up

Well gang we're heading into the final two weeks before the big event and everyone is getting excited and pitching in to make this a memorable, fun event.  Our day began with an invocation by Millie Alexander who took a moment to remember our troops overseas and pray for their safe return. John Broussard led us in the Flag Salute and of course Greg Mills flew into a rousing rendition of "Roll Out The Barrel" for what may be the penultimate time.

Guests:

Paul Hudson stood in for Eric Sense and introduced our guests for this meeting:

Lane Calvert- Past District 5320 Governor-

Bob Carey- 4th meeting attended- VPHS Band Booster

Ricardo Rodriguez- guest of Greg Mills - 2nd meeting attended

Adelle Graves- our speaker for the morning on Senior Living in Orange

                                          Birthdays/Anniversaries:

Abby Millsturned 10 and spent the day with Greg and Andie Millsat Legoland.

Annoucements:

Jeannie Hankins was thrilled to be back from her trip to Russia; she has a cold, but vowed to have all of our  new Paul Harris  Fellows awarded their medallions and certificates.

Everyone is encouraged to wear your Paul Harris Medallion to the Oktoberfest event

We are now a 100% Paul Harris Club.  Lane Calvert will see if he can use his considerable pull in the district to see if we can have the 100% Paul Harris Banner awarded to the club at the Oktoberfest event.

Lane Calvert reminded us that on Friday September 25th our own Ron Accornero will be honored along with other club's Rotarians as our club's  Business Rotarian of the Year.  Members were encouraged to attend the event at the Knott's Resort Hotel. Let's see if Ron will be the big winner for the District 5320.  Lunch will be served at 12 noon. ( There is no relationship to  our nomination of Ron and the fact  that this week kicks off the Knott's Scarey Farm Season.)  Congratulations to Ron and best of luck in the voting.

Teri Brooks was selling tickets for the upcoming Fireman's Pancake Breakfast- check out the signs posted around town for the time and date in October.  She'll have the tickets again next week.

Come out and support Firehouse 23 and our Volunteer Fireman.

Joe Brand announced the upcoming Laguna Beach Rotary Classic Car Show on Sunday October 18th from 9:30AM  to 4 PM - Admission $5 adults; $2 kids under 12- strollers free.

He also mentioned a Toys For Totsrun  in December with members of the US Marines participating.  Help is needed to make sure this is a successful event.

Steve Stern and Milt Stamos bet on the Angels-Yankee series and Steve paid up $5 to the club kitty. The Yankees took 2 out of 3 games.

Happy New Year to our Jewish Members-  L'Shanah Tovah.

Happy Bucks:

Terry Brooks was happy to announce that the Villa Park Spartan Football Team is 2-0 for the first time in 4 years.

Jeannie Hankins was happy to be back from Russia and wants to give a talk about her trip in the upcoming weeks.

Nagy Ibrahim was happy to get 2 donations for Oktoberfest

Chanda Parrott was back from 2 weeks in France; 1 week in the Jordan River Valley with the Laguna Culinary Adventure Club and 1 week in Paris.

Greg Mills was happy to announce the birthday of his daughter Abby who turned 10.

Ken Meyer says dad Bob Meyer is coming home from Holland tomorrow and after being treated like a rock star by everyone there, its going to be hard to live with him.   Wife Angel is home and Ken collected 2 big boxes of DVDs that were donated by a local citizen group; he's also found a cheap source for DVD players and as soon as the Army tells him where to send these DVDs they'll be off in a flash.

Pam Dunn announced that there are opportunities to have your family's name engraved in the bench by the clock in the Ralph's Shopping Center.  7 families can be added at a cost of $300 each.

She also let the group know we are still looking for someone to underwrite the cost of the floral table centerpieces for Oktoberfest.  You can either pay $300 or split it with someone else at $150 each.

Oktoberfest ticket sales are going well, please turn in your checks and names and addresses of your attendees ASAP to Pam.
